About Bruce Toews

Current Roles
Bruce Toews is Associate Dean and Professor of Accounting & Finance at Walla Walla University, where he teaches a wide range of undergraduate and MBA courses. As associate dean, his administrative duties include oversight of accreditation, outcomes assessment, internships, and academic advisement. In addition, he serves as Sponsor of the WWU Investment Club.  On the side, he operates a CPA professional services firm, providing expertise in accounting, tax, auditing, wealth management, personal financial planning, and software consulting.

Education 
Toews earned a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) with a Specialization in Finance, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with an Emphasis in Finance, and a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) with a Concentration in Accounting. He is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

Professional & Academic Journey 
With 35+ years of experience in higher education, Toews has taught at several institutions, including Walla Walla University, Union Adventist University, and Whitman College. Before entering academia, he worked as a CPA auditor.  For nearly last four decades, he has operated a small CPA professional services firm serving individuals, businesses, and nonprofit organizations. He is an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). His research explores the influence of religion and culture on investment practices, professional skepticism among financial auditors, the valuation of intangible assets, financial metrics for nonprofit organizations, and regulatory developments in the credit union industry.  

Throughout his career, Toews has been recognized for excellence in teaching, advising, and service. His honors include the WWU School of Business Teaching Excellence Award (four-time recipient), the Presidential Excellence in Teaching Award, the C. Michael and Delona Lang Bell Outstanding Teacher Award, the ACBSP Teaching Excellence Award, the WWU Excellence in Academic Advisement Award, the NACADA Outstanding Faculty Academic Advising Award, and the WWU Community Service Award. 

Beyond the Classroom 
Outside the classroom, he enjoys birdwatching, hiking, singing, playing keyboard and guitar, and riding motorcycles.
