wwudrama presents Shakespeare’s The Merry Wives of Windsor

wwudrama will present The Merry Wives of Windsor by William Shakespeare on May 10, 11, 15, 17, and 18 at Walla Walla University Village Hall. Directed by Mark Raddatz, the production promises a lively farce filled with colorful characters and comic mishaps.

The story follows two married women, Mistress Alice Ford and Mistress Margaret Page, who are pursued by Sir John Falstaff trying to gain access to their husbands’ wealth. However, the two women outsmart Falstaff and plot humorous revenge against him, leading to a series of comedic misunderstandings and disguises.

Raddatz decided he wanted to direct The Merry Wives of Windsor during the Me-Too Movement. “It’s the only Shakespeare play where the women win. No kings, no princes or other nobility. Just regular folks being funny,” he said.

The cast includes WWU students Elizabeth Blackwelder, Lauren Ellis, Ernesto Martinez, Colin Peterson, Garret Ellis, Seth Wohlberg, Alyssa Brown, Jake Gillespie, Aden Barbuta, Ashton Ellis, Andrew Barbuta, in addition to community members Amanda Wuest, Alex Hernandez, Martin Surridge, Smith Carpenter, and Russell Skorina.
