Build your M.Ed. your way

WWU adds new stackable Master of Education format

Walla Walla University is excited to announce a new Stackable Graduate Certificates Program designed to offer flexible, asynchronous pathways to a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree for less than $14,000.

The stackable program allows educators to earn professional certificates in specializations that include leadership, special education, and teaching and learning (with special focus on STEM)—at their own pace, paying as they go.

Each specialization features three certificates:

  • Basic certificates provide a strong foundation for a master’s degree, and they are designed to lead toward North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists specialized endorsements.
  • Advanced certificates feature training ideal for educators seeking advanced professional opportunities. A professional certificate includes an interest-driven capstone project and will complete all requirements for an M.Ed. degree.
  • The stackable program is enhanced by Walla Walla University’s commitment to experiential learning, meaning graduate students can apply many course assignments to their work.

“We recognize that today’s teachers already balance a big list of professional demands,” says Maria Bastien Valenca, dean of Walla Walla University’s School of Education and Psychology. “Last summer we were excited to announce a ‘no more summers’ program where teachers can move toward NAD certification without sacrificing their summer break. And now we’re pleased to make advanced learning even more accessible by offering an on-your-own-time stackable approach toward professional certificates and an M.Ed. degree.”

The Stackable Graduate Certificates Program is regionally accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Courses are a collaborative blend of theory and practice, taught by seasoned experts who bring a faith-based approach to learning. Students can start courses anytime.

“This is truly a flexible program for the modern professional,” adds Bastien Valenca. “Start when you want. Pay as you go. Earn one, two, or all three certificates—we want to support your professional goals and your schedule.”

Earning an M.Ed. degree can improve earning potential, increase job security, and qualify you for advanced roles like administration or leadership positions. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the M.Ed. is often required for specialized teaching positions. BLS also projects growth for specialized educational areas, such as training and development, postsecondary administration, and special education.
