Walla Walla University’s drama program, wwudrama, will open their season by performing “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play” by Joe Landry this December in Village Hall. Six student actors portraying over twenty characters will tell the story of small town, unsung hero George Bailey in a live 1940s radio-show version of the classic holiday film.
Across the country, families and audience members of all ages have enjoyed watching Landry’s adaptation of the timeless story. In the play, George begins to think his boring, ordinary life isn’t worth living, but a visit from his guardian angel helps him realize the importance of all lives and that “no one who has friends is a failure.” According to Broadway World, the production is “a marvelous show that will please the entire family…the radio play is entirely faithful to the classic story.”
Jerry Entze, drama program director and university registrar, is directing the production. The cast features Alyssa Brown as Violet Bick and others, Donniel Delim as Uncle Billy and others, Emmalyn Logan as Mary Bailey, Curtis Morris as Potter and others, Toby Pitton as Clarence and others, and Egan Schmidt Weiss as George Bailey.
Performances will be Dec. 3, 4, 7, and 10 at 7 p.m., and Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. General admission will be $12, and admission for seniors and WWU faculty, staff, and students will be $10. Tickets can be purchased online at wallawalla.edu/wwudrama.
