Beyond the classroom

Lynelle Ellis shares media lessons in Bellevue

On March 7, Department of Communication professor Lynelle Ellis presented a two-part media seminar at the Bellevue Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Ellis’ topics included the effects of media, media literacy, and how to navigate AI as a Christian.

AI was a topic of particular interest to attendees. “From the Q&A session, I learned that our constituent members are looking to Walla Walla University to guide our church in this area and to properly prepare our students to use AI wisely and effectively in the workplace,” said Ellis. “They really care about what we are doing here.”

Ellis’ seminar was well received. One church member said in a text message “Ellis is a great speaker! So relaxed, interesting, humorous, and presented a great deal of pertinent and needed information and gave practical applications. Really appreciated it!"

Ellis has spent her career in media ministry, working for 13 years at Blue Mountain Television before becoming a full-time WWU faculty member. Her doctoral dissertation studied the relationship between Christianity and visual media.

Ellis is also a member of the WWU Speakers Bureau. Its nine members have the mission of sharing their wide range of expertise outside the bounds of WWU’s campus. Other members include Alex Bryan, Pamela Cress, and Paul Dybdahl.
