A new way to train

Golf team opens Sheu Golf Practice Facility

On March 25, Walla Walla University hosted the grand opening of the Sheu Golf Practice Facility. Located in one of the former racquetball courts in the Winter Educational Complex, the facility features three state-of-the-art golf simulators.

The simulators were generously donated by Samuel Sheu (‘88-89) of California. “My money is God’s money,” said Sheu at the grand opening. During his time at WWU, Sheu decided that “If I can come back and help this school, I’m going to do it,” and the Sheu Golf Practice Facility is the culmination of that resolution.

The simulator models are the Foresight Falcon and cost around $15,000 each. Three players can use the golf facility at a time, and each simulator comes preloaded with more than 40 courses. These machines are available for golf team members to use at any time.

Team members and coaches are eager to see the impact of these new machines on performance. “Now we will be able to stay sharp as a team through the winter,” said Greg Dodds, golf team assistant coach. Previously, the golf team could not practice outside consistently during the winter months due to weather and daylight constraints.

The golf team has grown significantly in recent years, with 16 players on the roster. The team’s growth is due in no small part thanks to the efforts and dedication of the coaches—Mike Kearby, Mason Palmer, and Greg Dodds—along with project manager Chad Washburn.
