JumpStart: Getting started on the right foot

We are so excited to welcome you to the Walla Walla University family! To get to know you better and to help ensure that your college experience starts off on the right foot, we've created JumpStart, our freshman orientation week jam-packed with events and programs designed to help you learn about how WWU works and where you can find the resources that will help you be successful during your time here.

During JumpStart you will get to settle into your room before everyone else does, learn your way around campus, meet your academic advisor, choose a mentor, get help with finishing up registration tasks, attend workshops that will help you navigate and succeed in college, and meet new, life-long friends.

JumpStart 2022

Dates: Sunday-Friday, September 18-23

What's included?
The fee for attending JumpStart ($290) covers all activities, materials, meals, and lodging for the week. Students who attend the required number of sessions and complete the required online modules will receive one academic credit, a significant savings compared to the full price of an academic credit. The JumpStart fee will be applied to your student account when classes begin (payment in advance is not necessary).

When can I move into the residence hall?
The residence halls will be open and ready for you to move in beginning Sunday, September 18, 2022! Students will need to sign up for a move in time.

Where will I eat during JumpStart?
Your orientation fee covers all your cafeteria meals during the week of JumpStart. You will begin using your fall quarter meal plan the Sunday evening after JumpStart ends.

Who do I talk to if I need extra assistance?
If you will need disability support (including meals) during the week of JumpStart, please contact Disability Support Services as soon as possible with your specific needs. Contact: disability.support@wallawalla.edu | (509) 527-2366

Testing information

Placement Testing—math and writing

Writing Assessment

All incoming freshmen must complete the writing assessment even if they already have credit for any portion of the college writing sequence. Consult your personal JumpStart schedule for the time and location of the assessment.

Math placement testing

All new students need to take a math placement test before they take their first math class. It is best and easiest to take this placement test during JumpStart, even if you are not enrolled in a math class during fall quarter.

Learn about the math placement process.

ACT Residual Exam

The ACT Residual exam will be offered on campus early in Fall 2022. The cost for the ACT test will be charged to your student account. Scores from this exam are valid only at WWU and may not be reported to any other institution.
