“Once Upon a Walla”

wwudrama announces their latest performance

This March, wwudrama flips the script on tradition with the annual Festival of Shorts: Once Upon a Walla. Embracing a “fairytales gone wrong” theme, this year’s production delivers a live sketch-show vibe featuring three original scripts and a special guest appearance by School of Business Dean David Lennox as the host.

The Lineup: Fairytales Reimagined

  • Happily Never After: Directed by Courtney Easterbrook and written by alum Shane Wood, this piece explores the messy realities that follow the “happily ever after.”
  • The Sword’s Still in the Stone: Directed by Lauren Ellis and written by Ella Dodge, Lauren Ellis, and Ashton Ellis, this play explores the comedic chaos of a world where Arthur fails to pull the sword from the stone.
  • Jack of Too Many Trades: Written by Russell Skorina and directed by Elizabeth Blackwelder, imagines the collision of every fairytale “Jack” into a single, overwhelmed character.

A Legacy of Performance

A campus tradition since 1973 (annually since 1997), the festival has evolved from its roots as the “Festival of One Acts,” the culminating project of the Directing class, to its current format. Having showcased hundreds of student actors over the decades, it remains a cornerstone of Walla Walla University’s entertainment calendar.
