America Reads & Counts Tutoring

Walla Walla University partners with the local College Place Public Schools to offer literacy and math tutoring to elementary school students. WWU is the employer. The tutoring takes place off campus at the College Place Public Schools. Prior tutoring experience is not required, but applicants must have applied for financial aid and have a federal work-study award. Applicants must possess good reading, writing and math skills. Other qualifications include patience, flexibility and a good sense of humor. Priority will be given to education related majors.

Students hired should plan to commit to the program for the entire school year. A minimum of 8 hours per week is required, but 10-12 hours per week is preferred. Work hours are between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm. Students may work two to five days per week for as many hours as they have available.

Interested students should complete the America Reads Application

Applications will be reviewed by the Student Employment manager. After work-study eligibility is verified, the application will be forwarded to the Learning Specialist for the College Place Public Schools where the final hiring decision will be made. Students hired will be fingerprinted and have a background check performed. Attendance at the training session at the beginning of the school year is required.
