Piano Festival

Young pianists invited to WWU for two days of piano master classes, lectures, and recitals

Walla Walla University will host its first annual Piano Festival on April 15-17, 2018. Young pianists will be treated to a host of activities including master classes and performances by internationally acclaimed pianist and teacher Christopher Harding of the University of Michigan, and Jinhyang Park, WWU instructor of music.

The young pianists will take part in a recital and master classes in the afternoons and evenings with Harding, Park, and WWU piano majors. There will also be a question-and-answer session with Harding and a lecture entitled, “Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven: How to play their music without mixing them up!” The festival will end with recitals by Park and Harding and an award ceremony to celebrate an outstanding pianist chosen by Park and Harding from among the young pianists.

“On behalf of the Walla Walla University Department of Music, I am very pleased to welcome artist teacher Christopher Harding to our first annual Piano Festival,” says Park. “This will be an exciting event for young piano students, WWU piano students, and we welcome all members of the community to attend these events.”

Visiting pianists will have the opportunity to tour the WWU campus and meeting with Park and other members of the WWU faculty and staff. Academic and financial advisors will also be available to answer any questions that the students may have.

Junior and senior high school pianists who are interested in attending the festival are invited to submit an application and a prescreening video at wallawalla.edu/academics/areas-of-study/music/piano-festival. The deadline is Wednesday, Jan. 31. For more information about the festival, contact Park at jinhyang.park@wallawalla.edu.

Accommodations for festival participants and their families will be provided by WWU. The university will also reimburse prospective students for half of their travel expenses to attend the festival, up to $250.
