"Our Town"

WWU drama to present Broadway show “Our Town” in May

Walla Walla University drama program concludes the year with a performance of “Our Town,” a Broadway play by Thornton Wilder. The Pulitzer Prize winning play, first performed in 1938, has remained an American classic and this year, theaters across the country celebrate the 125th anniversary of Wilder’s birth. This spring marks the play’s third performance on the WWU campus.

The production is directed by Claira Eastwood, senior strategic communication major and drama minor. She said, “I selected this play because I realized that we are still in recovery from a pandemic, and I decided that focusing on relationships and connection is the best way to do that.”

“Our Town” has connected with audiences for decades due to its exploration of the human experience. Award-winning playwright, Donald Marguiles, stated in the script introduction: “Indeed the play’s success across cultural borders around the world attests to its being something much greater than an American play: it is a play that captures the universal experience of being alive.”

The cast includes Macy Moon, Nick Ault, Kalissa Krause, Zachary Dilger, Anique Gruia, Abby Rogers, Madison Turner, Devon Border, Madeleine Van Cleve, Toby Pitton, Emma Meadowcroft, Isaac Meythaler, Lindsay Rogers, and Tanner Buller.

Performances will be May 14 and 21 at 9 p.m., May 15 and 19 at 7 p.m., and May 22 at 2 p.m. in Village Hall located at 207 S. College Ave. in College Place. Tickets are available online at wallawalla.edu/drama. Tickets cost $12 for general admission, and $10 for WWU faculty, students, staff, and senior citizens.
