Rose is presented annual Community Service Award

Steve Rose, vice president for Financial Administration, is the recipient of the 2021 Walla Walla University Community Service Award. The award was given at the 139th Annual Walla Walla Valley Chamber of Commerce Awards presentation, which has been held virtually for the past several years due to COVID-19.

“Steve is a wonderful boss,” said Sharryl Toews, executive assistant for financial administration.  “He is always kind and gracious and very understanding of the people around him. He is hard working, putting his heart and soul into WWU and our community.”

Rose’s community involvement includes serving as a member of various boards including for Gospel Outreach, SonBridge Financial Committee, Walla Walla Valley Hospice Finance Committee, and the Walla Walla Valley Chamber of Commerce Board. He helped establish the WWU Center for Humanitarian Engagement and he is actively involved with the Walla Walla University Church.

John McVay, WWU president, said, “Steve seems to relish hands-on roles, including service at the homeless winter shelter. If you listen in to the Tiny Tots division at the University Church on Saturday mornings, you will find the six-foot-six-inch Steve Rose playing the piano, a talent he has also shared at prison ministry worship services.Thank you, Steve, for personifying ‘generosity in service.’”
