Hey ASWWU family,

Due to the series of challenges brought by COVID-19, the ASWWU team has been working relentlessly to provide alternative content for you to feel like you are still part of this WWU family despite the distance. Although we have lost the convenience of face-to-face conversation, we are strategizing on what it means to serve the student body on a virtual level. In these plans, we have set the following goals for our administrative team as we begin Spring Quarter online:

  1. ASWWU will continue to provide work virtually for as many employees as we can. This comes with the implication that most departments will continue to function online in some capacity.
  2. ASWWU will instill new and creative ways to give back to students. Many of our departments are shifting their focus to host competitions, giveaways, and provide new content for students to enjoy.
  3. ASWWU will use its efforts to maintain the WWU community. It’s the students that stimulate WWU culture, thus we plan to expand on student perspectives through various outlets on campus.

Much thought has been put into the direction we are taking as we have spoken with students, faculty, and administrators alike. We are facing a challenging moment, yet we can find comfort in knowing our WWU community can and will continue to thrive. I invite you to contact me directly via email with any questions, concerns, or suggestions as I am more than willing to listen to them.

Stay safe,

Lucas Marcondes

Department updates

The Atlas
The Atlas will be closed for the remainder of the hiatus period. The installment of the new espresso machine is still planned to be ready for next school year.

Social
Many anticipated events such as the spring banquet and Spring Jam have been shut down. The Social team plans to host events, giveaways, competitions, and more every Thursday. Stay tuned to the ASWWU Instagram for big prizes.

Spiritual
Unfortunately, the Spiritual Concert featuring Josh Baldwin from Bethel Music is no longer happening. However, the ASWWU Spiritual team will be releasing a podcast every Thursday, as well as launching a blog, putting together a devotional book, having weekly social hang outs where we as students can chat, and starting a pen pal system. We also are starting a Spotify account so you can find some good uplifting Christian playlists to encourage your days! Listen to our podcast on Spotify.

The Collegian
Although you won’t be seeing physical copies of The Collegian, all content will be 100% online through aswwucollegian.com. Stay tuned for a special edition at the end of the year.

Senate
ASWWU Senate will still occur through Microsoft Teams once a week. It is open for interested students. To sit in on a Senate session, look up “ASWWU Senate 2019-2020” through the search bar and join the team.

Outdoors
Since we can’t lead you on epic trips anymore, ASWWU Outdoors has transitioned into sending you stoke through the interwebs! We have Tech Tips dropping MWF @ 9 a.m., a Trail Tales Podcast every Tuesday at 2 p.m., an Outdoor Cooking Show every Friday at 4 p.m., and our Weekly Blog Posts will be released every Thursday at 4 p.m.! We have also started an Accountability Partner program if you are lacking motivation, need a daily wake up call, or are just looking for some workouts to keep you healthy! Keep an eye out on our Instagram Page and ASWWU website for content updates. We hope you enjoy our content and if you have any suggestions, please DM us on Instagram or email us at ASWWU.outdoors@wallawalla.edu.

Marketing
Posters on campus are no longer as effective. ASWWU Marketing has done much re-evaluation as to what it looks like to market to students 100% online. An announcement portal onaswwu.com is in the works, but for now follow us on Instagram and pay attention to your email!

Mountain Ash
Our yearbook team will continue to work on and put together the Mountain Ash yearbook for the end of the school year.

Web
Our software developers are continuing to maintain and improve the ASWWU website from home. They are also working on a new notification system to display announcements on aswwu.com.

Diversity & Wellness
Diversity & Wellness will continue to post “Wellness Wednesday” posts on the ASWWUInstagram to educate students on topics of diversity and inclusion.

Global Service
The short-term mission project to Seattle for Treehouse is no longer happening. Students are still encouraged to donate and volunteer time to the project.

Support our project remotely:

  1. Donate through the link in the aswwu.globalservice IG bio to support youth in foster care.
  2. Volunteer as a virtual math tutor for youth in foster care who are now in online classes and lacking the support they get through a normal school setting.

DM @aswwu.globalservice to get involved or to get more information!

Tread Shed
The services of the Tread Shed as well as Mountain Rents have been halted and will start again when class resumes. The hiatus also effects the renovation process for the Tread Shed and its merge with Mountain Rents.

Video / Photo
Both ASWWU Photo and ASWWU Video will no longer be taking photos or videos of campus life.

Productions
We will no longer be printing posters until classes resume.

All hiring and training conducted this quarter for next year is still in full effect.
