WWU spirit of community continues via online alumni gathering

""

Walla Walla University will hold Virtual Alumni Weekend 2020 on April 24 and 25, 2020. Plans for this online gathering began to form when the in-person homecoming weekend was postponed as a result of COVID-19. Alumni can join the online event and access resources and links for the weekend at wallawalla.edu/virtual-alumni.

“I’m excited to be able to offer an opportunity when we can celebrate our connections even when we can’t be together in person,” said Claudia Santellano, director for alumni and parent relations.

Virtual Alumni Weekend 2020 will include a variety of events that will be available online, including:

  • Worship song service with Steve Moor ’05, Erin Will ’08, Jered Kostenko ’06, and Jaci Cress Solis ’05.
Friday, April 24, 7 p.m. | Access the song service online at wallawalla.edu/virtual-alumni.
  • Special live alumni church service in the University Church sanctuary with alumni platform participants and WWU President John McVay presenting the message.
Sabbath, April 25, 11:40 a.m. Access the service through the University Church website at wwuchurch.org.
  • Live Evensong program with music by Kraig Scott, professor of music, and spoken word by Rodd Strobel, assistant professor of health and physical education.
Sabbath, April 25, 7 p.m. Access the live program online.

Alumni are also invited to sign an online guest book at wallawalla.edu/virtual-alumni.When we’re on campus together, we invite alumni to leave their permanent mark by signing the walls of the belfry in the Administration Building,” said Santellano. “For Virtual Alumni Weekend, we’ve provided a way for alumni to leave their mark as well along with a message that will become part of the historical record related to this global pandemic and our virtual alumni weekend.

“The in-person homecoming weekend experience is invaluable and irreplaceable,” said Santellano, “but during the COVID-19 pandemic we have an unprecedented opportunity to express in a new way the spirit of family and community that Walla Walla University is known for.”

We invite you to join us online for Virtual Alumni Weekend 2020, April 24 and 25, 2020, and to mark your calendar now for a combined in-person 2020/2021 Homecoming Weekend, April 22–25, 2021.
