The Walla Walla University symphony orchestra will perform a concert this Saturday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. in the Walla Walla University Church. The concert is free, but audience members will have the opportunity to contribute to a special offering to enable WWU music students to participate in an upcoming orchestra tour to Washington, D.C.

The concert will feature an inspiring repertoire including “Finlandia” by Sibelius, a Brahms Chorale prelude titled “O God, Thou Holiest,” the Fugue from Symphony No. 4 by Charles Ives, and two movements from Symphony No. 3 by Camille Saint-Saëns. Some pieces will also feature Kraig Scott, professor of music, on the organ. 

This year, the WWU symphony orchestra was invited to perform in February as part of the 2024 Capital Orchestra Festival in the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. WWU musicians will be featured on the main stage of the Kennedy Center for a large audience. The performance historically takes place over President’s Day weekend and features only four orchestras from across the United States. 

The concert this weekend will take place on Oct. 28 at 5:30 p.m. in the Walla Walla University Church, located at 212 S.W. Fourth Street in College Place. All are welcome.
