Walla Walla University’s Department of Visual Arts will be presenting their annual Choir and Wind Symphony Concert at the University Church on Saturday, March 7, at 4 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
The program will feature performances by ICantori of Walla Walla University, University Singers, and the Wind Symphony. Both choirs will be conducted by Kraig Scott, professor of music, while the Wind Symphony will be conducted by Brandon Beck, associate professor of music.
Songs have been selected from a variety of composers including Mark Williams’ Variants of a Nautical Hymn and David Gillingham’s Messianic Kingdom from Apocalyptic Dreams. The music department hopes listeners will recognize beloved melodies of favorite hymns as well as some well-known gospel songs.
A special participation by University Singers will delight with Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem Op. 48, presented in collaboration with the WWU Chamber Orchestra. The Fauré Requiem performance is supported by the Roos and Reitz families in memory of Frieda Roos, mother of two WWU alumni and avid supporter of WWU. During the 1990s, Frieda led multiple WWU College Day trips for students from Loma Linda Academy.
