WWU Care Team to provide resources and support for students during campus closure

Walla Walla University has launched a Care Team to provide support for students who are living in WWU residence halls or village housing during the COVID-19 campus closure and resulting spring quarter online instruction.

The Care Team will identify the needs of students who may be sick, in self-isolation, or in quarantine and will provide resources to help, such as food, supplies, medical consultation, spiritual connection, and mental health resources. The Care Team is partnering with the Associated Students of Walla Walla University (ASWWU) to deliver supplies and to connect students with resources.

“We want to make sure that students know we are here to help support them through this time and that we have options that are available to them,” said Carrie White, associate director of the WWU Counseling and Testing Center and Care Team organizer.

In her role as manager of the Student Health and Wellness program, White has also started an initiative to help all WWU students who are dealing with stress and anxiety. The program provides education and support for stress management, coping with loss, how to have honest conversations, and other topics, as well as classes that focus on movement and breathing.

The Care Team will directly contact students who are living in the residence halls or village housing to explain how they can receive help. White added, “If someone knows of a student who is ill and needs support, please don’t hesitate to contact us to let us know.” If you need help or know of a student who needs help, please complete the Care Team form.
