WWU voice students to present winter recital

The Walla Walla University Department of Music will present “It’s a Grand Night for Singing: Music of Rodgers and Hammerstein” in the Melvin K. West Fine Arts Center on March 7. The recital will feature voice students studying under Christine Janis, professor of music.

Sixteen performers will share a variety of the best loved songs from Richard Rodgers’ and Oscar Hammerstein’s greatest musicals. The program will include solos, duets, and ensemble pieces, and will be accompanied by Jan Roberts on piano. The recital will feature student singers Emma Little, Heidi Kissinger, Chase Wiedemann, Elijah Chung, Madeline Stone, Matthew Orvek, Madelyn Carlton, Sarah Kimitsuka, Jacob Mayes, Jamie Palmer, Hannah Gordon, Joshua Price, Christopher Kime, Larissa Edmister, Alexandra Bazan, and Benjamin Griffin.

"My students and I are excited to share the memorable songs of Rodgers and Hammerstein. Costumes, special lighting, and stage movement will add to the magic of the performances. There is something for everyone!" said Janis.

The recital will take place on Tuesday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Auditorium, located at 200 S. College Ave., College Place. The event is free and open to the public.
