The Den

A new study and entertainment room has been developed in Sittner Hall

A new study and entertainment room called “The Den” has been developed in Sittner Hall, one of the men’s residence halls.

When associate deans Jon Nickell and Scott Rae joined the staff, the room was a neglected basement storage room. Now, completely reimagined, it provides a unique meeting space for students.

“The original thought was that it was going to be a spot where guys could watch movies, play video games, and watch TV that was just for them,” says Rae. Equipped with a 4K TV and the ability to connect with nearly any input device, the room can be an entertainment center.

“As we collaborated with different departments on campus, we realized that we had a much bigger opportunity to create a space for more than just entertainment, and so that’s when we put in the additional seating and the study room,” says Rae.

Now “The Den” sees more use for collaborative functions other than entertainment. Rae says that students are really making it their own. “Students can still watch movies, play video games, and watch TV,” he says, “but now they can do homework and work on presentations and projects. It’s really turned into a multipurpose room for the guys.”
