A new agreement between the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities and the LA Film Study Center will allow film students from Walla Walla University to fulfill some degree requirements in sunny California.

Over the years, WWU’s membership in the CCCU has made it possible for WWU students to attend Oxford University in England. This same connection to the CCCU will now allow WWU film students to attend the LA Film Study Center program. 

Jerry Hartman, WWU associate professor of communications, has worked for more than five years to make this opportunity available to WWU film students as part of the official curriculum. Hartman said that the film center works with approximately 120 film agencies and does a great job of placing students into their most desired area of interest.

The LA Film Study Center offers 250 hours of internship experience with major companies in the film industry and works to develop the artistic voice of students in the classroom. The program, like WWU, is faith-based and can benefit students by integrating their study of film with Christian values and themes. The LA Film Study Center also gives WWU students a chance to work alongside students from all over the country. 

WWU student Morgan Sanker will be the first communications major to go through this program. Sanker will attend the LA Film Study Center this fall as she plans to finish her degree in film and television.

Alumni of the LA Film Study Center have gone on to work as writers, directors, editors, and visual effects artists for films such as Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, Get Out, and Marvel’s Doctor Strange.
