The Walla Walla University Steel Band will perform at the Power House Theatre on Sunday, May 15, at 7 p.m. They will be accompanied by Liam Teague, the world-renowned steel drum soloist of “Hands Like Lightning,” who has been called the “Paganini of the Steelpan.” Mike Agidius, director of the WWU Big Band and saxophone soloist, will also accompany the Steel Band for two pieces. The Rogers Adventist School junior high Steel Band will also perform.
The WWU Steel Band performance will feature many songs including Teague’s composition “Hands Like Lightning” and will close the concert with Teague’s arrangement of “Pan in A Minor” by Lord Kitchener. “Pan in A Minor” was written for the TCL Group Skiffle Bunch Steelband from Trinidad and performed by that group at the 2005 World Steel Band Festival in Madison Square Garden.
Tickets for the WWU Steel Band concert can be purchased on the Power House Theatre website. Tickets are $10 for students, $15 for balcony seats, and $20 for floor seats. Proceeds from the concert go to support the WWU Steel Band through recruiting, touring, and purchasing instruments.
The Power House Theatre is located at 111 N 6th Ave. in Walla Walla
