Trio Nova Mundi will perform at the Melvin K. West Fine Arts Center Auditorium on Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 7:30 p.m. The trio will present “Femmes Notables” in honor of Women’s History Month in March. The collection of pieces features the work of women composers Mel Bonis, Elisenda Fabregas, Gwyneth Walker, and Fanny Mendelssohn. WWU is one of many stops the group will make during their “Femmes Notables” Northwest tour.
Nova Mundi is made up of Becky Billock on piano, Maureen Conlon Gutierrez on violin, and Elisa Kohanski on cello. The ensemble seeks to share music with the world, increase awareness of lesser-known artists, and engage in community outreach. They have performed across the United States as well as in Africa, Mexico, and Chile. They each are on the faculty at Grove City College in Pennsylvania and serve as the ensemble in residence.
Billock is a 1995 WWU music performance graduate. She went on to receive a master of arts degree from the University of Redlands and a doctorate from the University of Washington. Billock has performed and collaborated on numerous concerts as pianist. She released a C.D. in 2010, “muses nine,” which celebrates the contribution of women in the world of music. In addition to her performance schedule, Billock teaches students at her private studio in Pittsburgh.
The Melvin K. West Fine Arts Center is located at 204 S. College Ave., College Place. The recital is free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted.
