International classical duo

Po-Chuan Chiang and Cristian Neacsu to present a recital featuring the music of classical composers, including Handel, Brahms, and Tchaikovsky

Po-Chuan Chiang, acclaimed international musician, and Cristian Neacsu, assistant professor of music at Walla Walla University, will present a recital featuring the music of classical composers, including Handel, Brahms, and Tchaikovsky, on Sunday, Jan. 19, at 7 p.m. in the Melvin K. West Fine Arts Center Auditorium. The recital will feature Chiang at the piano and Neacsu on the violin.

Chiang works as a staff accompanist at Western Illinois University as well as performing internationally with multiple artists, both instrumental and vocal, in multiple styles and genres. Several of these performances include working as a pianist for the opera program Scuola Italia in Sant’Angelo in Vado, Italy, and performing in the winners’ concert of the American Protégé Competition in the Chamber Music category at Carnegie Hall.

Neacsu has served as assistant professor and orchestra director at Burman University in Canada, and as the president of the Alberta String Association. He established the ASA Concerto Competition and regularly works with prominent artists such as Stefan Milenkovich, Piotr Milewsky, Herbert Bloomsted, and others. In 2017, the Burman Virtuosi, a strings chamber orchestra of select players that was established by Neacsu, performed at the Music Conference Alberta along with other acclaimed ensembles from the province.
