Evensong

Program of sacred music and spoken word to mark graduation weekend Sabbath

The Walla Walla University Department of Music will present a livestreamed Evensong program on Saturday, June 13, at 8 p.m. from the University Church. This will be the final Evensong for the 2020 academic year.

The program will feature Kraig Scott, professor of music, playing works by George Frideric Handel, Marcel Dupré, Fred Bock, Paul Ayers, and others. Handel’s “Arrival of the Queen of Sheba” and Ayers’ “Departure of the Queen of Sheba” will begin the program. Dupré’s “Cortège et Litanie,” which builds to a triumphant, hopeful conclusion, will mark this special commencement weekend.

Eight members of I Cantori of Walla Walla University (Gina Lincoln, Hannah Gordon, Amelia Pekar, Kimberly Owen, Cameron Bierwagen, Joshua Price, Andre Gonzalez, and Bryce Weber) will perform two pieces: Bock’s "Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us” and Ola Gjeilo’s “Ubi Caritas.” The program will conclude with Naji Hakim’s “Embrace of Fire.”

The spoken word will be presented by Rodd Strobel, assistant professor of health and physical education.

The program is free and can be accessed live online at 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 13.
