JumpStart Leaders (JSLs)


JumpStart Leader 2024 Applications are now open! 


What are JumpStart leaders (JSL)?

JSLs are student ambassadors during freshmen orientation. They play an important role in welcoming first-year students to our campus. JumpStart Leaders:

  • Work with a group of 15-25 first-year students during the week of JumpStart (9/23-9/27)
  • Facilitate group activities
  • Lead out with ice breakers and/or team building activities
  • Provide tours of campus
  • Answer questions about campus and college life
  • Help take attendance at both general and breakout sessions
  • Check-in students at the cafeteria
  • Help incoming students connect with faculty, staff, and current students
  • Become a peer leader
  • Share your knowledge and experience of WWU
  • Share your survival tactics

Qualifications

  • Be a returning student
  • Be self-motivated
  • Have good communication skills
  • Knowledgeable of campus resources
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of students
  • Be available for JumpStart Leader Training (9/19-9/20)
  • Be available for JumpStart Week, including some evenings (9/23-9/27)
