Tour Itinerary: Days 22 - 24
July 12: Rome
Today we follow in the steps of the apostle Paul as he made his way to the city of Rome. Our day begins with a guided tour Catacombs of San Callisto. The catacombs are the underground burial sites of early Christians. The Catacombs of San Callisto were built along the main road leading into Rome--the Appian Way. They date back to about the year 150 and hold the remains of several popes from the 2nd to 4th centuries. After leaving the catacombs, we will travel along the Appian Way, stopping to visit the Circus of Maxentius and the Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella. The apostle Paul would have travelled along this road on his journey into Rome.
After lunch, we will continue our guided tour by visiting the remains of the ancient Roman Forum, including the Arch of Titus (celebrating his defeat of Jerusalem in A.D. 70), and the Mamertine Prison (where Paul was imprisoned before being executed under the Emperor Nero. We will also visit the Palatine Hill where we will see the remains of the palace of the Roman Emperors. Our tour concludes with a visit to the Colosseum, where many gladiators and Christians lost their lives, and also the Arch of Constantine and the Circus Maximus. Overnight the Grand Palantino Hotel.
July 13: Rome
We conclude our last day of touring in Rome with a guide tour of the Vatican Museums and St. Peter's Basilica (including the Sistine Chapel). After lunch, we will visit the Pantheon and several other cites, including the Trevi Fountain. Overnight at the Grand Palantino Hotel.
July 14: Depart for Home
After three weeks traveling through the Bible Lands, our trip has come to an end. In the morning we will transfer to the airport in Rome to catch our flight back to the United States. While it will be good to be home, we will never forget the experience we shared together.
We will fly out of Rome at 11:45 am on British Airways Flight #553 to London. The flight is only 2 hr 40 min, so we will arrive at 1:25 pm. We have an 1 hr 40 min layover. Our flight back to Seattle departs at 3:05 pm and arrives in Seattle on the same day at 4:40 pm. Flight time is 9 hr 35 min.
Transfer to the Cham Palace Hotel for a much-needed night's rest.
