Walla Walla University’s Department of Music will present a concert featuring two guest artists and Karlyn Bond, professor of music, to conclude the inaugural string workshop occurring from January 14–16.
Violinist Lun Jiang and cellist Pegsoon Whang, both longtime members of the Utah Symphony Orchestra and adjunct music faculty at the University of Utah and Westminster University in Salt Lake City, will perform music from of Joseph Haydn, Claude Debussy, and César Franck together with Bond on piano. “Lun and Whang are both fantastic musicians, and I’ve had the pleasure of performing chamber music with them for over twenty years,” said Bond.
Bond is excited to launch the annual string workshop this year to help prepare the orchestra for their upcoming trip to Washington D.C. String students will receive individual coaching during masterclasses and string sectionals led by the two guest artists. The cello and bass masterclass on Sunday, January 14 and the violin and viola masterclass on Monday, January 15, both happening from 4:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m., are open to the public.
The concert is at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 16, in the Melvin K. West Fine Arts Center Auditorium, located at 200 S. College Ave. The event is free and open to the public.
