Academic Programs

The Department of Mathematics offers two Mathematics Major programs: a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science, and two minors: a Mathematics Minor and a Mathematics for Middle School Teachers Minor. Contact Academic Advisement if you have questions: (509) 527-2132.

Mathematics major (Bachelor of Arts)

Students who get a B.A. in mathematics take the math core, but also take a language and select a minor. Senior students are required to take the Major Field Test (MFT) in mathematics.

Mathematics major (Bachelor of Science)

Students who get a B.S. in mathematics take the math core, but then select additional classes from one of five possible “career pathways.” Career pathways include specialized mathematical classes as well as supporting classes from allied domains such as biology, chemistry, physics, computer science, and economics.

Mathematics minor

A minor in mathematics complements almost every major on campus. A minor requires 28 credits of mathematics, six of which must be upper division.
