The Center for Educational Equity and Diversity, run by the Walla Walla University School of Education and Psychology, welcomes Dawn Bennett and her associates, Cindy Sandino-Chang and Juan Córdova, to speak for the Spring Equity Professional Development workshop. This seminar will take place Thursday, May 9, from 4-6 p.m. in the WWU Winter Educational Complex, Room 209.

Bennett is the co-founder of McERA, the Multicultural Education Rights Alliance. Based in Seattle, McERA works to give a voice to those who feel unheard when speaking on the education of children. She will be joined by Sandino-Chang and Córdova, who will be sharing personal stories about their experience with discrimination.

“Dawn Bennett is an energetic, warm-hearted, champion for justice. She recognizes the power of an effective and inclusive education system and how it can create lifelong opportunity for all individuals,” said Mindy Robinson, senior elementary education major and special education minor. “Dawn represents CEED’s goals to promote equity and diversity in the School of Education and Psychology at WWU and the greater Walla Walla Valley.”

CEED is an organization that seeks to increase research and improve practice on issues of diversity and equity. It was founded to interact with the community, not only on the WWU campus, but also in the surrounding area. CEED brings awareness to many issues related to education and unspoken learning barriers.
