The Center for Media Ministry (CMM) hosted John Quinn, editor of The Chosen, as a guest lecturer for film courses in the master’s program for Cinema, Religion, and Worldview.
A special guest is always invited for the summer intensive portion of the program, according to Lynelle Ellis, associate professor of communication. “This year we wanted to bring someone who works on The Chosen because it is such a phenomenon in the Christian media world. Since we are teaching a class in editing and postproduction this summer, we chose to ask the series editor,” said Ellis.
The Chosen, produced by Angel Studios, is the first multi-season series to portray the life of Jesus and his followers. The biblically rooted series has two completed seasons with five more currently being funded.
The foundational goal of The Chosen, sharing about the life of Christ through a television series, aligns perfectly with CMM’s mission to share the gospel through visual media. The CRW degree gives students the technical, artistic, and intellectual skills they need to create meaningful, beautiful films and change their world.
"I'm taking this degree because I'm super excited about sharing the story of Jesus in a way that people can interact with and connect with in a powerful way," says Joneen Wilson, master’s student of the CMM.
The center wanted to share this special opportunity with anyone interested, so they invited Quinn to involve the community as well.
The CMM partnered with Quinn to host a screening of The Chosen at the Gesa Power House Theatre in Walla Walla on Sunday, Sept. 7. Attendants viewed the first two episodes from the second season before a question-and-answer session with Quinn.
