You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown

WWU students to perform musical based on classic comic

The Walla Walla University drama program and the Department of Music will perform “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown” at Village Hall on Nov. 3, 8, and 10 at 8 p.m., and Nov. 4 and 11 at 2 p.m.

Based on the popular comic strip Peanuts, “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown” brings to life the well-beloved characters of Charlie Brown and his companions. David Crawford, assistant professor of communications, said, “It is a beautiful little musical that tells the story of some classic comic characters that are part of many people’s cultural landscape. The show uses the actual comic strip itself as inspiration. It was originally written in the 1960s as just music. Then later they added a libretto to make it a full musical.”

Many people have pooled their various skill sets into bringing this musical to the stage at WWU—cast, lighting and sound crew, and design team just to name a few. Crawford, along with Kraig Scott, professor of music, and Christine Janis, adjunct voice instructor, are directing the play.

Crawford said, “I am the producer/director who finances and arranges for the details of the production as well as directing and providing overall vision. Kraig Scott is our incredibly talented music director who is in charge of orchestration and conducting during the show. He has also been our accompanist and provided music direction during rehearsal. Christine Janis is our dedicated vocal director in charge of voice performance during the rehearsal process and show.”
