Biology Students Attend Murdock Conference
WWU students Chanel Giles, Mandi Skilton, Catherine Winter, and Cedric Thiel attended the 2012 Murdock Undergraduate Conference at Whitman College, accompanied by WWU professors Jim Nestler and Joan Redd.
Undergraduate students from liberal arts colleges in the Pacific Northwest attend the Murdock Conference. Students came from schools such as Lewis and Clark College, Whitman College, Willamette University, Northwest Nazarene University, Pacific Lutheran University, University of Puget Sound, University of Portland, Linfield College, and Gonzaga University.
Participating faculty say that it is at this conference that many students begin to see the larger scientific community and the value of their work. Their research comes to life as they discuss it with students and faculty from other institutions. Participation in the conference takes their work to a new level, acquainting them with the process and academic rigors of presenting research in a scholarly manner. The interaction between WWU students and faculty during the conference is one of the most rewarding experiences during the school year.
WWU participates in the Murdock Conference each year. WWU undergraduates who conduct research are invited to attend and present their work. Research may be conducted with a WWU professor or at another institution over the summer. If you are interested, please contact your mentor/advisor at WWU within the first two weeks of Fall Quarter.
