In the last week of May, Walla Walla University hosted the annual Academic Excellence Symposium, with Melody Ezpeleta, assistant professor of psychology, serving as the keynote speaker.
This event gives students the opportunity to wrap up the year by showcasing their academic projects and displaying research findings. In total, there were 12 paper presentations, where students highlighted their work via slideshow, and 11 poster displays. Topics spanned various disciplines, including biology, communication, history, and psychology.
The program began in an exhibition hall, where guests could enjoy some light refreshments while moving through the various poster projects, speaking with students about their work. Following the poster presentations, Ezpeleta presented her keynote lecture, which focused on bringing awareness to the importance of mental health assessments for high school students in Adventist academies.
After the keynote lecture, the paper presentations were divided into session rooms, each given a different theme based on the topics of the presentations. In one particular session with the theme “Health Experiences,” student presenters showcased a wide range of health and medical related research projects.
