Evensong

Kraig Scott and students perform for classic sundown worship service

The Walla Walla University Department of Music will host this year’s first Evensong on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 5 p.m. in the University Church, 212 SW Fourth St., College Place.

The event will showcase students such as Viviana Cortez, Ariana Parks, and Katie Sloop, performing alongside their teacher Kraig Scott, professor of music. The program will feature pieces by Bach, Pachelbel, Dupre, Vierne, and Langlais. Spoken word throughout the program will be provided by Montgomery Buell, associate professor of history.

For more than 50 years, Evensong has been a cherished part of the WWU musical culture. “We present this quiet, sundown worship service about eight or nine times each year,” Scott says. “It’s always timed to coincide with sundown, so the start times vary. The format is simple—music interspersed with readings.”

This service is free and open to the public.
