Mission Statement

We endeavor to stimulate critical thinking and creative expression, enhance language and cultural sensitivity, and help students connect educational, career, and life goals. Students will be prepared to enter careers or pursue graduate studies that will use their talents to understand, speak, read, write, and communicate through a variety of media, becoming effective and articulate Christian communicators.

Student Learning Outcomes

Students with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication will:

1. Demonstrate knowledge of communication concepts and principles
2. Understand effective message creation across multiple media platforms
3. Produce effective messages appropriate to audience, purpose, and context
4. Create effective communication products (written, visual, and spoken) across multiple media platforms
5. Apply ethical communication principles and practices
6. Embrace diverse individuals, communities, and viewpoints
7. Expand opportunities for research and graduate education
8. Contribute to cutting-edge communication scholarship

Students with an Associate of Science degree in Communication will:

1. Demonstrate foundational knowledge of biological, physical, and behavioral sciences relevant to human communication
2. Evaluate scientific information and apply evidence-based reasoning to problems communication sciences
3. Communicate effectively in written, oral, and interpersonal settings
4. Demonstrate professionalism, ethical awareness, and readiness for transfer into a bachelor's program
5. Analyze the influence of developmental, social, and cultural factors on communication across diverse populations
6. Explain the roles, responsibilities, and educational pathways of speech-language pathologists and audiologists
