Upcoming engineering events

Engineering students and professionals to enjoy colloquiums and annual dinner

The Edward F. Cross School of Engineering has no shortage of activities planned for the month of February. In the coming weeks, engineering students and community members will have the opportunity to network, learn, and mingle with like-minded professionals.

COLLOQUIUMS

On Wednesday, Feb. 14, the day before the STEM Meet Up, the School of Engineering will host presentations from two successful engineering professionals in Room 107 of Kretschmar Hall.

At 5:30 p.m., engineering and computer science students are invited to hear from David Levin ’92, who has worked as a software engineer at Microsoft and Google. Levin will speak about interviewing for jobs in high-tech, and on Thursday, he will conduct mock interviews to give students practice for their futures.

At 7 p.m., Kevin Welch, a successful engineer and entrepreneur, will present “How to Win and Lose $100 Million.” His presentation will be of particular interest to engineering and business students. Welch will also attend the STEM Meet Up on Thursday.

Engineering majors are eligible to receive colloquium credit at both of the Wednesday evening presentations.

ENGINEERS WEEK DINNER

On Wednesday, Feb. 21, James Kneller ‘95, an electrophysiologist with Astria Health, will speak at the annual Engineers Week Dinner. The evening event begins at 6:30 p.m. at the SonBridge Education Center. Kneller will present “Manifestations and Mechanisms of the Mind-Body Connection: Implications for Biotech and Human Potential.”

Kneller has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Walla Walla University, a master’s degree in bioengineering, a doctor of philosophy degree in cardiac pharmacology, and and a doctor of medicine degree. He has completed fellowships at Columbia University, UCLA, and Virginia Commonwealth University. He has served as the medical director for Deaconess Hospital in Spokane, Washington, and opened an electrophysiology lab at Kadlac Regional Medical Center in Richland, Washington. Currently, he develops cardiovascular and electrophysiology services throughout the Yakima Valley as a member of Astria Health.
