Pedrito Maynard-Reid, Walla Walla University theology professor and assistant to the president for diversity, received the annual WWU Community Service Award. Each year this award is given to the WWU faculty or staff member who most exemplifies generosity of service in our local community.
According to President Alex Bryan, “Dr. Pedrito Maynard-Reid has long been a steady, compassionate presence in this community—a humanitarian, a champion for peace and a tireless advocate for those whose voices are too often overlooked.” His commitment to community, equity, inclusion and peace has been a lifelong mission.
Maynard-Reid’s influence touches many of the Walla Walla valley’s non-profits and service clubs. Notably, he has been an active member of Rotary International for the last 25 years; holding local and international leadership roles within the organization.
He has also been a member of the United Way of Walla Walla County, the Union-Bulletin Advisory Council, the Eastern Washington Regional Diversity Officers group, the Board of Directors of the Adventist Peace Fellowship, and the Walla Walla Civility Board, just to name a few.
“Across all of these roles, what shines through is not just the breadth of Dr. Maynard-Reid’s service, but the spirit in which he serves,” said Bryan. “He brings optimism into every space—an optimism grounded in action, in faithfulness and in a belief that a better day is possible for all.”
Maynard-Reid will be honored for his work at the annual WWU awards service on April 24, 2026.
