POSITION SUMMARY

Directs the leadership for Prayer Ministries on the campus of Walla Walla University for the purpose of enhancing the spiritual life of students and other members of the campus community. Through a variety of creative means, online and on campus, the Prayer Ministries Coordinator will help make prayer a central focus across campus as our lifeline to the Father and a crucial Spiritual discipline. The PMC will also be available for prayer opportunities as they arise on campus, and work with a team of volunteers to pray for the campus, the worship services, and the leaders of the WWU community.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Works with the Campus Chaplain and Campus Ministries team to identify and implement opportunities to reach out to the students of WWU through prayer in order to connect them with the gospel of Jesus Christ in the context of an Adventist university campus.

  2. Maintains a regular devotional life with Christ, growing in a knowledge of and experience with His Word, the Spirit, and the grace of God.

  3. Responds, in coordination with the Campus Chaplain, to campus emergencies and ministry needs related to students in crisis.

  4. Develops and recommends students to be considered by the Campus Chaplain for leadership positions for the following year.

  5. Reports weekly to the Assistant Chaplain in charge of Prayer Ministries, turning in weekly ministry reports.

  6. Communicates regularly with Assistant Chaplain concerning work hours, promoting events, and job related needs or concerns.

  7. Maintains strict confidentiality concerning information discussed or records shared that involve fellow students, faculty, or staff and other life situations.

  8. Intentionally makes one’s presence known to students in his/her assigned area of ministry.

  9. Participates in required training and leadership development including annual leadership retreat, weekly leadership discussions, and other opportunities as assigned by the Chaplain.

  10. Attends the yearly NAD Campus Ministries Convention during Spring Break, if so asked to do so by the Campus Chaplain.

  11. Works with Campus Ministries & Student Missions office to stay current on WWU offerings, policies and procedures.

  12. Adheres to WWU’s policies for conduct, daily processes and risk management.

  • Upholds WWU’s code of conduct and standards.

  • Uses WWU’s timekeeping, data collecting and reporting systems consistently and with discretion.

  • Abides by WWU’s risk management and safety policies.

  1. Maintains a working understanding of the budget and works with Assistant Chaplain to remain in budget and to request funds if needed.

  2. Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of WWU senior management, formally or informally, orally or in writing.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES – Prayer Ministries Specific

  1. Supervises the Prayer Ministries Coordinator Assistant via weekly meetings and ministry reports that are turned into the Assistant Chaplain.

  2. Provides regular evaluation reports of ministry events.

  3. Builds relationships with other campus entities such as the School of Theology, University Church, and others to help coordinate efforts of Prayer across campus.

  4. Regularly recruits volunteers as prayer warriors.

  5. Develops Prayer Ministry library.

  6. Plans and implements programming including prayer walks, Heubach morning prayer, and other creative opportunities in collaboration with other Campus Ministries programs.

  7. Covenants with other prayer warriors to regular check and pray for requests of the WWU community submitted via email and Facebook.

  8. Communicates prayer ministry opportunities in appropriate time to PR Manager for promotions.

REQUIRED MEETINGS & RECORD KEEPING

Ministry Team Meeting (weekly) – Thirty-sixty minutes with Assistant Chaplain and Prayer Ministries Assistant for planning and accountability of ministry responsibilities.

All Staff Meetings (once/month) – Two hours in duration with the entire Campus Ministries staff in order to fellowship and provide opportunities for prayer, encouragement, problem-solving, and support.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Student Status – Must be a full-time student (12 credit hour minimum) for the duration of employment.

Licensure/Certification – None required

Experience/Skills

  • Strong passion for Christian ministry in a team-oriented environment.

  • Exceptional social/interpersonal skills a must—clear ability to convey information positively and in a timely manner.

  • Strong organizational skills, including ability to maintain communication and manage multiple projects on deadline as directed.

  • Experience or coursework in areas of ministry, communication, or public relations.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word and Excel a must.
