Laptop support

At Walla Walla University, we believe that the future of computing lies in a mobile campus, with each student having their own laptop.  In order to accommodate this, we offer offer a number of tools and services:

Campus Wireless
We understand the importance of having internet access no matter where you're at on campus. Because of this we are constantly upgrading and expanding our wireless infrastructure. Check out our wireless map for more detailed information.

Laptop Software Drive
Some of the software programs that are installed in campus computer labs can also be installed on your computer.  To review and install any of the available programs, proceed to the link below.

Note: This software can only be installed or run while your computer is connected to the WWU network.

Follow the steps below to map a network drive:

1. Right click on the "Computer" desktop icon or in the start menu then click "Map Network Drive..."

2. Select a drive letter.

3. Type in a directory for the drive you want to map. The most common drive directories are as follows:

  • Shared K drive: \\\shared
  • Software drive: \\\laptop-software

4. Check the box for "Connect using different credentials" and click "Finish"

5. At the "Enter Network Password" screen, use the following credentials:

  • User name: Enter skynet\ then your campus username (this is generally firstname.lastname)
  • Password: Your WWU network password


1. From the desktop, select the "Go" menu option and select "Connect to Server" (or ⌘K).

2. In the "Server Address" box, type "smb:" followed by the address for the drive you want to map. Common drives are as follows:

  • Shared K drive: smb://
  • Software drive: smb://

3. If the server is used a great deal, press the "+" button to add the drive to the list of favorites.

4. Click the "Connect" button.

5. When asked for a username and password, keep "Connect as: Registered User" and use the following credentials:

  • Name: Enter skynet\ then your campus username (this is generally firstname.lastname)
  • Password: Your WWU network password

Suggested Anti-Virus Software

We highly recommends that you install anti-virus software on any computer you connect to the WWU network. We're currently recommending the following anti-virus software. Both can be downloaded free of charge via the links below.

Suggested Laptops

If you choose to bring a laptop to campus we recommend it meets or exceeds the following specifications:

  • Intel Core i5 Processor (or equivalent)
  • 128GB Hard Drive
  • 4GB RAM
  • 13.3" Screen (1024×768)
