There is an arbitrary division, created by federal regulations, between laboratory chemical use and all other uses. As a reflection of that division, Walla Walla University has two sets of documents to provide guidance for the safe use of chemicals on all its campuses.
The Chemical Hygiene Plan is the guidance document designed for laboratory chemical use. It covers a multitude of issues, including pathogen safety, laboratory ergonomics, and hazardous waste disposal.
Hazardous Chemical Communication Policies are required for all departments where hazardous chemicals (external link) are used or stored. These policies contain department-specific information regarding training, labeling, use, and storage.
