Walla Walla University (WWU), which is affiliated with the Seventh-day Adventist church, has existed as an educational institution since 1892. Then called Walla Walla College, the school opened with 80 students and nine faculty members and was housed in one building: the Administration Building. The essential mission of the college was to provide students with a Christian education. The school was incorporated in the state of Washington in 1902 and was then authorized to grant degrees. Now named Walla Walla University, the institution has educated an average of 1,862 students per year over the last ten years.
