A performance of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 by the Walla Walla University Orchestra has earned the group an invitation to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City. The orchestra will perform as part of the Music Celebrations International Viennese Masters Festival invitational concert in June.
On Saturday, March 16, at 8 p.m. the orchestra will perform a benefit concert in the University Church to raise funds for the trip.
The concert on Saturday will feature performances of the Overture, “Die Zauberflote,” by Wolfgang Mozart, Suite in A Major by Antonin Dvorak, Symphony No. 1 in G minor by Vasily Kalinnikov, and more.
Admission to the concert is free, however donations to help cover the costs of travel to Carnegie Hall are appreciated.
The orchestra, which includes more than 50 students, is working to raise approximately $40,000 to help with expenses related to transporting large instruments such as cellos, basses, a harp, tubas, and more.
Donations will be accepted at the concert or online at payment.wallawalla.edu/donate/MUSICORCH. All donations can be made tax deductible.
The University Church is located at 212 S.W. Fourth St., College Place, Wash.
