Guest and faculty recital

Joseph Brooks and Kraig Scott will share pieces from multiple genres, including jazz and classical

On Sunday, Oct. 6, at 4 p.m. Joseph Brooks, professor of clarinet at Central Washington University, and Kraig Scott, professor of music at Walla Walla University, will present a recital featuring works by Johannes Brahms, Gabriel Faure, Claude Debussy, Leo Weiner, and the guest artist’s own arrangement of George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue”.

“Performing at WWU is always a pleasure for me,” remarks Brooks, “In my very early years of my career, I taught woodwinds and was the band director there. To this day, I regard that experience as the most enjoyable of my entire 37 years in higher ed. What rich experience it was.”

As part of his busy career, Brooks has taught at multiple institutions including Whitman College, Western Kentucky University, and Walla Walla University; and has performed as a guest artist in both classical and jazz music, at college and university campuses around the United States. He has also been the solo clarinetist with the United States Continental Army Band.

The recital will feature Brooks on clarinet and Scott at the piano. It will be in the Melvin K. West Fine Arts Center Auditorium, 200 S. College Ave. The recital is free and open to the public.
