Center for Educational Equity and Diversity to launch peer reviewed e-journal

Diversus will be an open-access, scholarly, peer-reviewed, e-publication intended as a vehicle for discussing equality and celebrating individuality within the professional educational community.

Diversus will be an open-access, scholarly, peer-reviewed, e-publication intended as a vehicle for discussing equality and celebrating individuality within the professional educational community.

This spring, the Center for Educational Equity and Diversity will launch a peer reviewed e-journal with the goal to cultivate inclusivity by encouraging research and discussion within the educational system. The CEED is organized by a group of professors in the School of Education and Psychology who have a desire to nurture growth through variety and equality.

“One of the ways we thought this could be accomplished is by starting a journal that would be an organ for serious scholarship on the subject,” said Austin Archer, professor of psychology and education, who will also edit the journal. The journal will be titled Diversus: Equity and Diversity in Education. Submissions will be reviewed by experts in psychology, education, special education, health, and physical education before being published. The editorial team will include Maria Bastien, assistant professor of education, Neria Sebastien, assistant professor of special education, and Brian Hartman, assistant professor of education, who will also assist with technical support.  

Diversus will be an open-access, scholarly, peer-reviewed, e-publication intended as a vehicle for discussing equality and celebrating individuality within the professional educational community. The CEED team is currently seeking research articles, book reviews, and commentary by educators, parents, and others interested in educational equality and diversity. Potential topics include special education and inclusion, gender and ethnic representation (particularly in fields such as science, technology, engineering, and math), discrimination by race, ethnicity, educational processes, and more.

Two years ago, the School of Education and Psychology established the Center for Educational Equity and Diversity. The goal of CEED is to spread and strengthen equity and diversity by providing professional development opportunities, establishing community partnerships within the Walla Walla Valley, tracking issues of diversity and equity through statistical analysis, and more.
