Student Employment: Getting a college job
Having a job while you are in college helps reduce your student debt, builds your resume, and increases your chance of success in college.
Requirements: To work on campus during the school year, you must take at least 12 credit hours of classes at WWU. For summer employment on campus, you must be enrolled for summer classes or be accepted and pre-registered for at least 12 credit hours of classes at WWU for the fall quarter.
How to get a college job:
Step 1—Find a job opening that matches your skills on Job Scene.
Job Scene hosts on- and off-campus opportunities for employment and internships.
Step 2—Fill out an application for your job of choice.
You can apply to multiple positions with one application. Your submitted application will be sent to the Student Employment office and you can request that it be forwarded to the employer(s) of your choice.
Step 3—Complete the required employment documents.

The Student Employment office will forward your application to the employer of your choice.
Student Employee of the Year 2023
Please join the office of Student Employment on congratulating Alexandra Wiedemann, a Senior at Walla Walla University, and the 2024 Student Employee of the Year.
Alex will receive a $3000 scholarship. She was nominated by his supervisor Brooke August.
Runner-up Nyasha Pazvakawambwa (Student Development Center) will receive a $1500 scholarship.
Alex's supervisor has this to say about her:
“Alex has changed the atmosphere in the athletic training room, with her passion for serving our student athletes, interest in sports medicine, attention to detail and time management skills.“
“Working in the athletic training room is working in a chaotic and busy setting where you never know what will happen next. Alex is enthusiastic to jump in and do whatever is needed from folding towels, to cleaning up blood on the court, making an ice bath or running an athlete to an appointment, working a last minute 6AM practice or game that goes until midnight. Her attentiveness to needs and proactiveness has been a game changer for me over the last 3 years.“
“Alex regularly goes above and beyond her job responsibilities in her quality of work and attention to details. She has developed her ankle taping skills to a professional level, out-taping many certified athletic trainers in our conference. She is quick to jump in and do whatever she can do to help, without being asked to do so.”
“Alex would prefer to stay out of the spotlight, but she leads by her actions and natural ability to teach. I rely on Alex to help train our new student employees with attention to detail and the precision that I depend on. Her leadership in these areas frees me up to do more skilled work with our athletes, which in turn provides better care to all of the student-athletes. Alex's eagerness to learn is an asset to her skill development and leadership. I admire that she is not afraid to ask questions of myself, our team physician, or other health care professionals.”
“Her friendly demeanor welcoming athletes from WWU (or visiting schools) creates the positive atmosphere we strive for. Many students utilizing the athletic training room are in pain, tired, discouraged, and recovering from injury or surgery. Her compassion, interest in people, and attentiveness to physical and emotional needs exemplifies "generosity in service". She is dependable, professional and every day she brightens the lives of those she is in contact with.”
The Brian and Susan Harris Excellence in Work Ethic Scholarship is awarded to Jake Freedle and Lydia Thiel. Both will receive a $1000 scholarship.
