Family Weekend 2017

Family members of current students are invited to the WWU campus for a variety of events and activities

Families of current students are invited to Family Weekend at Walla Walla University to be held Oct. 20–22. A variety of activities and events are planned.

On Friday, Oct. 20, from 8 a.m. to noon, families are encouraged to join their students for classes. Faculty have prepared extra seating and look forward to meeting student families. Later that day, WWU students can show their WWU ID card at Bright’s Candies in Walla Walla and treat the whole family to ice cream.

Vespers on Friday at 8 p.m. in the University Church will feature student missionaries who will share their experiences through stories, photos, costumes, and music. After vespers, families can visit the Missions Fair in the church foyer, chat with returned student missionaries, and view booths showing the many countries and missions where student missionaries have served. The Apple Fest will follow vespers in the church Fellowship Hall where families can enjoy fresh-pressed apple cider, homemade apple crisp, and great fellowship.

On Sabbath, Oct. 21, join us for FirstServe or the more traditional Second Service at the University Church, and hear Alex Bryan, senior University Church pastor, present his message from the “Ask. Anything. Season 2” sermon series. WWU President John McVay and his wife, Pam, will host Sabbath lunch in the WWU Alumni Gymnasium and look forward to meeting family members. That afternoon, Loren Dickinson, professor emeritus of communication, will present “More Bridges, No Walls” from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Chan Shun Pavilion lecture hall.

The Havstad Alumni Center will open its doors Saturday afternoon as a gathering space for students and families to relax and socialize. We will close the Sabbath with Evensong at 5 p.m. in the University Church and at 7:30 p.m. move on to “ATTFSCDTYDKA,” an entertaining talent show in Village Hall featuring faculty and staff.

Family Weekend events will conclude Sunday morning, Oct. 22, at 9 a.m. with the AGA Cancer Awareness 5K Fun Run. Meet in the parking lot on the west side of Canaday Technology Center.
