Course sharing through Acadeum

Walla Walla University is a member of three consortia: the CIC Online Course Sharing Consortium, the CCCU Online Course Sharing Consortium, and the Consortium of Adventist Higher Education Online (CAREOnline).

Through these partnerships, Walla Walla University offers you more options to access excellent education on a schedule that fits your unique academic journey. While in residence at WWU, if a course doesn’t fit into your degree completion timeline, you can take an equivalent pre-approved class online from one of our consortial partners through a platform called Acadeum.

To enroll in a course offered by a participating institution, you should discuss your academic goals with your advisor, create an Acadeum account to search for available courses, be sure you’ve received financial clearance for the term you’d like to take the class, and then request enrollment.

How it works

Eligibility and course selection

Your eligibility to enroll in a course taught by one of our consortial partners is determined by Academic Records. To qualify, you must be a degree-seeking, active student at WWU. The proposed course may be approved if you meet the prerequisite requirements of the teaching institution and if the course is either closed or not offered at WWU (the home institution) during a term you’re able to take it.

To begin the process, discuss your degree completion plan with your advisor. If you both determine it would be beneficial to take a course through one of our consortial partners, create a student account in Acadeum and search for available courses. If you don’t see a course you need, contact Academic Records for assistance.

❗️Keep in mind most courses in Acadeum are offered in semester units. Therefore, if you choose a course that’s listed for 3 units, you’ll ultimately earn and pay for the equivalent of 4.5 quarter units.

❗️Note the start and end dates for courses in Acadeum will likely differ from the start and end dates for WWU terms. You are responsible for tracking and meeting these deadlines. 

Registration and approval

If your advisor approves your course selection, you may next request enrollment through Acadeum. Your request will then be sent to Academic Records for subsequent approval. Note that requesting to enroll in a course does not ensure your enrollment in that course. Your request could be denied by either Academic Records or the teaching institution.

Taking the course

Once both Academic Records and the teaching institution have approved your registration, look for email communication from the teaching institution for instructions on how to access the course online, purchase textbooks, and complete any additional registration requirements (e.g., an orientation to the teaching institution’s learning management software, such as Canvas or Blackboard).

Once you've received this communication, contact the course instructor to clarify any questions you have about the class or how to get tutoring or technology help. You are responsible for meeting any technology and/or testing requirements for the course.

Billing and course credit

You will be charged for Acadeum courses through your WWU account, just like a regular WWU course. Financial aid may apply.

❗️You must receive financial clearance by the course’s start date in order to retain eligibility. If financial clearance is not received, you will be dropped from the course.

Credit for the course will appear on your transcript as WWU credit—not as transfer credit from the teaching institution. Your final grade in the course will calculate into your WWU GPA.
