Library resources are an excellent place for your students to interact with a topic, examine alternative viewpoints, and become familiar with theory or praxis. It is often the case, however, that if you do not assign students to read outside sources, they tend to skip this part of their learning process. They rightfully believe that whatever the professor requires is what is important about the learning process.
