Department Mission

A degree in physics prepares a student for a career in industry, for graduate study, and/or for careers in research and teaching. The Bachelor of Science degree is designed to provide extensive preparation for each of these, with the opportunity to gain practical experience in a research or industrial setting.

Student Learning Objectives

1.  Students completing the General Physics sequence will compare favorably in their knowledge of physics with students completing a similar program nationally.

2.  Students completing the baccalaureate program will compare favorably in their knowledge of physics with students completing a similar program nationally.  The average overall score for physics graduates on the physics GRE will be at or above the 30th percentile.

3.  Students completing the baccalaureate program will compare favorably in their knowledge of physics with students completing a similar program nationally.  The graduate school acceptance rate will be greater than or equal to the national average.

4.  Students completing the baccalaureate program will compare favorably in their knowledge of physics with students completing a similar program nationally.  When a common trend in the surveys sent to recent graduates is noticed, the department will meet to consider changes to the program to address the deficiency.
