Tim Golden to perform one-man play on Feb. 7

Tim Golden, Walla Walla University professor of philosophy, will perform the one-man play “Thurgood” in Village Hall on the WWU campus, Wednesday, Feb. 7, at 7:30 p.m. The play, written by George Stevens Jr., follows the life of Thurgood Marshall, the first African-American United States Supreme Court justice.

Golden first performed “Thurgood” in February 2017 in the WWU Black Box Theater. David Crawford, WWU professor of communications, directed the production, and recalls that, “as soon as I read [the script] I knew it was something special.” The play details Marshall’s involvement in many of the key moments of the civil rights movement. Shortly after his first WWU performance, Golden was invited to Seattle to perform the play for the Seattle City Council.

Golden will visit Gonzaga University in Spokane on Feb. 8 to perform “Thurgood,” and then will perform it again at Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama, on Feb. 22.

The Feb. 7 production at WWU is sponsored by the WWU Department of History and Philosophy. Following the play, Golden will answer audience questions. Admission is free and open to the public. Village Hall is located at 207 S. College Ave., College Place, Wash.
